A windy weekend in the valley saw pitchers struggle and hitters go wild, as the ASU Sun Devils Club Baseball team won 2 of 3 games over SDSU. The two teams combined for 89 runs, on 77 hits, and belted 17 home runs over the 3 games.
In game 1, ASU busted the game open with 5 runs in the 5th and 3 runs in the 6th to win 10-6. Jackson Dow was on fire, leading the offense by going 4/4, 2 R, 6 RBI’s with a double and a HR. Josh Sarabia helped the offense going 1/3, 2 R, and an RBI on a home run. Riley Barrett picked up his 4th win pitching 6 innings and sitting down 9 batters on strike outs. Rudy Gonzales closed out the 7th with 2 k’s and no runs.
Game 2 was a wild one with ASU breaking the tie game and clinching the win in the 6th. A combined 32 hit, 9 HR game had pitchers battling while throwing over 300 pitches. The Devils scored 10 runs in the 3rd inning led by a grand slam by Jackson Dow, and additional home runs by Noah Osborn and Xavier Sauceda. Riley Barrett and Max Muehlhausen also provided home runs in the game. Noah was 3/3, 3 R and 4 RBI’s. Max was 2/3, 3 runs and 4 RBI’s. Riley was 2/3, 2 runs and 2 RBI’s. Sean Struab started the game, Taylor Cipriano came in in relief, and Josh Sarabia picked up his 1st win after the tie was broken.
The Devils lost the lead in game 3 in the top of the 7th after SDSU scored 11 runs. Riley Barrett led the offense going 3/6, 3R, and 4RBIs including a 3 run HR in the 5th. Dalton Cuneo was also hot, going 2/2, 1 R, 2RBI’s and 2 BB. Max Meuhlhausen was 2/4 with 1 run scored. ASU utilized 5 pitchers trying to slow UCSD, but lost the battle 18-13.
